Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the 19th of January, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and was raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, a housewife & Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. She was present on Knoxville TV at 12 years old. When she was 13, she was recording for a small label, and was singing at the Grand Ole Opry. After graduating from high school in 1964, she moved to Nashville to start her country-singing career. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving company owner was her first love. They got married on May 30 in 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and invited her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for seven seasons. The duets that they recorded became popular and she was asked to perform alongside him at the Grand Ole Opry. Her biggest hit "Joshua" that reached the top spot in 1970 was her biggest single. She chose to go by herself although she recorded duets with the singer. In 1974, she parted ways with for a new solo artist. Dolly was a well-known singer/songwriter. Dolly was awarded many Country Music Association awards (1968 1970, 1970 and 1971, 1975, and 1976). The diminutive (5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. The mid-1970s saw her becoming a regular on TV. she was appearing regularly on television specials, talk shows, and even before getting her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her track "Here You Come Again." Dolly's first film appearance was in 9 to 5 (1980) In the film, she was awarded an Oscar nomination for her composition of the title tune. She also received Grammy awards 2 and 3: Best Country Song, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the track "Nine to Five." She got more fame for her role in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) as well as in Rhinestone (1984) with the song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". She is the president of Dolly Parton Enterprises, a $100 million media company, and in 1986 she founded Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in celebration of her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She was a part of the TV show Dolly (1987 TV Show) as her character. She also won a Grammy in 1988, this time for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals for "Trio".
